Barbara McKay: A Painter’s Journey

This is an insight into the process of Barbara’s work, from her initial photographs, to her many drawings in visual diaries, her free calligraphic drawings, and finally collage pieces. There is a magic moment where the experience of actual landscape ends and the reality of the visual painted landscape begins. In Your Dreams

Hinton’s Travels in Japan

In March 1904 Howard Hinton travelled on his company ship to Yokohama, Japan. He spent two years in Japan making several voyages carrying cargo between Japan and Hong Kong, Saigon and Manilla. Using original photographs and extracts from Hinton’s diary this exhibition charts these travels, and documents a country that existed before the world wars and the rapid modernism that followed. Curated by Christine Durham, Education Officer. |

Print Circle: Room with a View

Established in 1970, the Print Circle is a group of thirty women printmakers who practice their art in and around Sydney and aim to encourage experimental and innovative techniques within printmaking practice. ‘Room with a View’ deals with viewing the external world through the eyes of each individual’s ‘inner’.

The crystal wafers are photographed between crossed polarising filters whilst passing a powerful light pulse through them. The printed images appear 3-dimensional, more like abstract paintings of waterfalls and feathers |

Having returned to Armidale Rosalie Rigby is reconnecting with the New England landscape: the granite outcrops and the effects of winter’s freezing waters, the greys and grey-greens of the scrub and the bushland, and the grandeur of the gorges. Using oil paints and mixed media, Rosalie explores the broad sweep and the beautiful detail.

An exhibition of oil paintings which reflects the artistís connection with the landscape, the cycle of growth and decay, and the passing of time. Living near Mt Wellington, Hobart, Di Smith is fascinated by the movement in mountain creeks and rockpools, the reflections and shifting shapes of light, the bird life and minute insects hovering across the surface.
