SUNDAYS

Printmaking with Lizzie Horne

An introduction to relief and intaglio printing using some of the wonderful presses available in the Museum of Printing.

The course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience. This will be a five-week short course starting with the basics of linocut and moving on to dry point etching and mixed media as desired. Students will learn how to design, carve and print their own images, both by hand (so you can go on printing your linocut at home) and on the presses.

We will look at how to adapt an image for linocut, transfer methods, background textures and carving techniques, as well as inking and printing techniques. There will also be an opportunity to try lots of other techniques, including dry point etching, with marks made directly onto perspex or metal plate.

The Museum of Printing at NERAM offers a unique opportunity for students to learn how to use some of the old and new printing presses, and is ideal for anyone thinking of printing on a regular basis with the Black Gully Printmakers.
