Activity: Portrait of an Artist
Look at the work of various well known and famous artists. Pick one whose work you like. Now find a photograph of them and make a drawing, painting or a collage of the artist in their studio.
Think about the type of art they make and make sure you include the ‘tools of their trade’. If they are a sculptor what type of material and tools do they use? Do they use things from nature or found objects like artist Rosalie Gascoigne or man made materials like metal or steel like artist Richard Goodwin? If you choose a painter, what things would they have in their studio? Look at the painting of artist Herbert Badham in his studio to help you.
Decide if you want to make a picture of them that looks just like them or do you want to make a picture of them how you think they would like to look? You can cut out a picture of the artist and paste it into your painting or drawing like artist Brett Whiteley did in some of his paintings.
