Outside Places

•The following selection of paintings could be classed as landscapes as they are of outside places, but rather than capturing sweeping vistas, mountain ranges or fields of flowers they are about the more intimate and familiar outdoor places that people go, places that people travel through or spend time in everyday or go to for holidays. Rather than ignoring these type of places artists have found something of interest in these outside places.
•They are mostly public places that often pass unnoticed as we go about our daily routines. You may only need to walk outside into the street to notice such places, or walk outside your house to find them but we all spend time in them, even if we don’t always notice them.
•For the viewer who may not have been to the exact same place there is enough familiarity or memory of similar places they have been to evoke an immediate or intimate response, a memory of a family holiday, a view out of a train window.
•It is this memory or connection that artists attempt to capture in their art of such places.
