Explore your creativity with a range of art classes and courses at the New England Regional Art Museum.

NERAM’s 2017 Art Classes will be held in the Packsaddle Studio during school terms.

Places will fill quickly and space is limited therefore it is suggested that you book in early.


CHILDREN’S ART CLASSES

NERAM KID’S ART CLUB with PETA MOORE (Unfortunately, this class will not proceed in Term 1 2017. Watch this space for future classes)

Discover the principles of art including line, colour, texture and form as well as exploring techniques and materials.

Age: 3, 4 & 5 years  old – parents/care-givers participate in class

Your child and you will experience a range of visual arts activities together in this weekly creative class.

Peta Moore is an experienced primary school teacher and artist who has run numerous regional art classes and workshops for young children. She develops and implements creative creates lesson plans for art, to engage and enrich children in their art experiences.

TUESDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS

ADVENTURES IN ART : After school art classes with Del Bernett

ADVENTURES in ART is a stimulating weekly class for kids aged 8 and up, who enjoy making art.

Age: minimum age 8 years old

Days: Tuesday Afternoons  (7 February – 4 April)

Wednesday Afternoons (8 February – 5 April)

Time: 4:00 – 5:15 pm

Participants  are encouraged to express their creativity in an individual way as they try new possibilities in drawing and painting, printmaking and sculpture. Some exhibition visits are also included – these often provide inspiration for a particular way of working.

Del Bernett is a qualified artist and educator who is passionate about helping both adults and children to learn about art, and to enjoy the experience of creating their own works.

Cost:

 ADULT ART CLASSES


2017 Term 1

FRIDAYS

Introduction to Mixed Media with illustrator Jan Clark – 

(Unfortunately, this class will not proceed in Term 1 2017. Watch this space for future classes)

The class will explore different medium such as graphite pencil, pigment pen, ink and water colour, coloured pencil, and simple mono printing on paper with added detail. Jan will be sharing methods and easy processes with the medium to build up layered surfaces and get straight into the fun parts of drawing on paper

This short course is an introduction and a longer course, to deepen the experience of a particular method/medium or find new mediums to explore, will possibly run in Term 2.

Award winning artist and illustrator Jan Clark has trained in natural history illustration as well as worked as a textile designer and printer. She has been involved in group exhibitions around Australia and overseas and her recent Insecta exhibition at NERAM (in 2016) was extremely popular. She also teaches regular workshops at Go Create! New England in Kentucky.

 TUESDAYS

Drawing/Painting/Mixed Media with Kerry Gulliver

Spend the mornings in the galleries being inspired by, and drawing directly from the works on display. Afternoons will be in the Packsaddle Studio looking at different drawing styles and techniques, creating some more completed works based on work done in the gallery using drawing techniques painting and mixed media.

The course is open to all skill levels and will allow for personal expression.

Days:  Tuesdays (31 January to 6 April 2017)

Time: 10.00 – 3.00pm

Kerry Gulliver is a skilled artist and educator who has exhibited regularly in Armidale, Sydney and Tamworth. She has trained in visual arts, animation, colour theory and graphic design and works regularly with community and other groups to run a range of art courses.

 THURSDAYS

Advanced Painting with Ross Laurie

Experienced painters use this class to carry on with their studio practice. Participants will receive constant feedback, and at the end of each day be part of a group critique. For new or less experienced students the class is more structured and advances many of the basic principles and more. Subjects include still life, portraiture, self-portraiture, landscape and figure painting. The history of painting & painters are part of general discussions.

Days: Thursdays (2nd February to 6th April 2017)

Time: 9.30 – 3.30pm

Walcha artist Ross Laurie has exhibited around Australia in public and commercial galleries. In 2015 he won the Paddington Art Prize and his work has been hung in the Wynne Prize and the Dobell Prize for Drawing (both at the Art Gallery of NSW). He is represented by King Street Gallery in Sydney.

Art for adults with Del Bernett

A weekly class for adults accommodating all levels of experience of making art. This class offers a variety of drawing, painting and printmaking experiences for adults at all levels, beginner to experienced.  Clear explanations of concepts are given and new techniques are demonstrated. Individual attention in a supportive atmosphere will help students achieve their artistic goals.

Days: Saturdays (11 February – 1 April)

Time: 1:30 – 4:30 pm

SUNDAYS 

Life Drawing with Robyn Jackson

Come join this friendly group of artists for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon of drawing. All you need to bring are the materials you would like to use. No tuition is provided but artists are willing to help new comers if needed.

 

Dates:  First and second Sunday of the month (Commencing in March 2017)

Time: 1-4pm

Robyn Jackson is a figurative artist with a background in fashion who has had solo exhibitions at the New England Regional Art Museum and Gallery 126 in Armidale.

Cost:

  • $20 per session – just drop-in
