Welcome to NERAMmore than an art museum

the research library

The NERAM Research Library plays an integral part in the Museum's mission to provide an educational and cultural facility in the New England region. The Research Library assists in this objective by:

  • maintaining a collection of print and nonprint materials on the programmatic subject areas of the Museum - historic and contemporary visual art and craft in a broad range of media from regional, national and international artists;
  • collecting materials specific to the art and the artists in the Museum's permanent collections;
  • developing a collection of critical texts and audio-visual materials addressing heritage values, the context of material culture, and cultural diversity issues;
  • providing a core of 'ready reference' materials such as directories, dictionaries, encyclopedias
  • collecting professional museum practice literature

The Research Library provides a central source of information facilitating access to resources not readily available outside the major city centres for art practitioners, organisations, researchers, institutions, educators and the public.

Howard Hinton Archive: The Howard Hinton Archive contains both personal reminiscences of Howard Hinton - letters, diaries, poems, - and historical documents surrounding the bequest - records of previous owners, valuations, exhibition histories.

NERAM Historic Archive: The NERAM Historic Archive contains documents originating from the creation of the museum in 1983 and following the major developmental milestones from the past to the present.
