BIOGRAPHIES
CHAIR
Lynne Walker
Lynne has been involved as a volunteer at NERAM since she and her husband Richard Bird, moved here twenty one years ago. Her background includes teaching in her native New Zealand, promotion and sales at IBM, West End, London, programme production at TVNZ, and Co-ordinator for the Nth. NSW area of Australia’s Open Garden Scheme. Currently on the National Management Committee of the Australian Garden History Society and involved as a volunteer for the local branch of the same, and is involved in a number of gardening projects around Armidale on a volunteer basis. Lynne is a freelance writer for two magazines – Country Style in Australia, and NZ House & Garden in NZ and has the occasional article in a number of Australian garden magazines.
Lynne says “The importance of NERAM as a significant Australian regional art gallery cannot be underestimated and nor can the importance of the volunteers in the NERAM community. It’s a stunning gallery and I would encourage everyone to avail themselves of this priceless asset”.
DEPUTY CHAIRS
Paul Akon
Paul is a senior solicitor having practised over 35 years in the public and private sectors in both the Sydney CBD and rural NSW.
Paul currently lectures at the School of Law, UNE, Armidale and has current memberships on; Ø Law Society of NSW, LEADR – Association of Dispute Resolvers & the Senior Common Room, Earle Page College, UNE.
In his personal life, Paul restored National Trust Property Anglesey House at Forbes, spearheaded a campaign for a new childcare centre and Medicare facility at Forbes, authored and published a highly successful international instructional text for aspiring Rugby referees, and was a founding patron of the (revived) Forbes Eisteddfod . Paul believes “Historically, non-creative people have influenced our lives far too much. So, in my view, we need to give creative people a bigger opportunity to become of more significance to us. One way to do this is to foster more exhibitions of past and present creative people.”
Peter Lloyd
Involved for many years in community arts/cultural organizations throughout Australia, especially with finance/management/PR/marketing focus. Has and does sit on a number of boards etc. Current chair of a national tourism organization and board member of significant regional finance group.
Long term interest in Australian and international art, with passion for preservation, and promotion of regional galleries linked with showcasing other regional art/ cultural/ food/ wine/tourism/ education activities.
Has previously served on this committee as Chair and Treasurer and is now the FON representative on the Advisory Cttee to the NERAM Ltd Foundation.

Rosemary Randall

Harry Geddes
Harry was a member of the Faculty of Law, Australian National University for five years before he became a member of the UNE’s School of Law in 1996. He became Head of School from 1998 until 2004 and continues to lecture at the Law School. He is a co-author of several books on law.
Harry remembers regular visits to the Ballarat Gallery of Art, which lays claim to being Australia’s oldest and largest regional gallery, as a small child in the 1940s. He has enjoyed visiting art galleries ever since. With wife, Ydeet Winter-Irving, he has been collecting art since the early 1970s. One of their daughters is a curator at a regional gallery. Harry states that if Armidale had not had an art gallery and a cinema they would have stayed in Canberra.

Pamie Brazier Hollins
Pamie grew up in the UK. She has been a Primary Teacher, Interviewer, Sales assistant over many years.Pamie loves colour in her life, so NERAM and the National Trust suit her very well.
Martha Saw
CEO of the University of New England's fundraising arm, the UNE Foundation, and Director of the Office of Advancement. Martha, has a wealth of fundraising experience, having previously worked for Montrose Access (a Queensland support service helping children and young adults with disabilities) MacKillop Family Services in Melbourne, Questacon, and the Canberra Region Medical Foundation. Having moved to Armidale in November 2008, she has enjoyed the welcome of the community and is a member of the Armidale Dumaresq Council Tourism Advisory Committee and Quota International of Armidale. Martha believes that we, as a community, have a responsibility to ensure that the next generation has access to the finest education possible. Working with the Friends of NERAM will satisfy this belief in that art is a reflection of history, and it is upon history that knowledge is based.
Lucinda Wright
Grew up in New England, educated at NEGS. Arts/ Law degrees from Sydney University. Joined Department of Foreign Affairs as a diplomat from 1975 to 1989, posted to Madrid, Santiago de Chile and Mexico City as well as serving as a policy officer in Canberra. Moved to Madrid in 1989, working in the Migration/Visa section of the Australian Embassy for seven years. Returned to Sydney at end of 1996 and worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers before being appointed to the Migration Review Tribunal in 1999. Worked there as a Member until retirement mid 2007 and a subsequent move to Armidale. Now works at Legal Minds.
