During term 1, NERAM welcomes the Sydney Collage Society touring show Contemporary Collage. The Sydney Collage Society is a creative pool of artists in Sydney. Founded in 2015 by Kubi Vasak and Leah Early, the SCS was created to push the boundaries of cut-and paste with a focus on celebrating the creative community of Sydney.
Description of activity:
After a guided tour by our arts educator students will discuss and respond to the artwork in the exhibition Contemporary Collage. Students will discuss the collage movement in the early 20th century with an arts educator comparing and contrasting with the contemporary collage exhibition at hand. Students will question what the artists are trying to communicate through cut and paste. Inspired, students will then create their own contemporary collages.
Students are asked to bring photographs to this workshop, it could be of themselves a friend, pet, object or landscape. These photos can be printed through a regular printer. Students will then create their own photomontages using their photographs and materials supplied by NERAM.
Students are asked to question scale, colour, balance and composition with no rules as to how to construct their photomontage. Students are asked to question the message they wish to convey to their audience.
