To coincide with the opening of the touring jewellery exhibition ‘USE’ we invite children to make their own wearable masterpiece using art supplies, unique found objects and recycled materials.
‘USE’ is an exhibition of exquisitely crafted contemporary jewellery, involving work from 17 artists in the Jewellery + Metalsmiths group of Australia.
Description of Activity:
Look closely at the ‘USE’ exhibited artworks. What materials are used? Do they look wearable? Can you see the strange materials ie. headphones, toothbrushes, nails etc.
Choose what sort of masterpiece you would like to create. Children draw themselves wearing the object they wish to create.
Using objects from home, found objects in the grounds of NERAM, recycled materials, and art supplies, students create their own wearable masterpiece. Be in a hat, necklace, tie or brooch; think of the objects you no longer need lying around the house or classroom, and be as obscure as you please!
Children consider the size and stability of their sculpture as they put it on and wear it… a final parade to present their own wearable masterpiece!
Children can take them home, or display them in the classroom at school.
Pre-visit Notes for educators: Please ask children to bring some objects from home or the classroom to add an extra layer of creativity to this project!
Dates: Program operates at specified times of booking depending on availability until May 1st.
Venue: NERAM
Cost: Gold coin donation
