What to do with an empty art gallery?

FREE SPACE is a series of live performances at New England Regional Art Museum featuring local musicians using the unique physical qualities of the gallery’s spaces to explore sonic possibilities.

Tune in to the live stream on Sundays in May at 5pm to see something different each week.

FATHOM: Sunday 10 May, 5pm

Ash Hall (trumpet), Steve Harris (drums)

Celebrated jazz trumpeter Ash Hall has been a fixture on the local music scene, and is joined for this special duo performance by drummer Steve Harris, a fellow collaborator in cutting edge band The Neologists.

This established classical guitar duo brings classic and contemporary repertoire to life with a diverse range of music spanning from new music commissions to trailblazing transcriptions of classic works.


ALANA BLACKBURN: Sunday 24 May, 5pm

Alana Blackburn (solo recorder)

Highly regarded recorder player and soloist Dr Alan Blackburn has toured throughout Australia, New Zealand and Europe and performed with The Royal Wind Music, New Dutch Academy, Salut! Baroque, The Bell Shakespeare Company, Pinchgut Opera, The Sydney Consort and The Sydneian Bach Choir.


HERBIE GETS OUT: Sunday 31 May, 5pm

Steve Thorneycroft (guitar), James Haselwood (bass), Steve Harris (drums)

Three of the region’s finest musicians combine for this eclectic groove-based trio featuring much sought-after bassist James Haselwood who has played with everybody from Kasey Chambers to Tim Minchin.
