In Luminous Land, Jonathon Larsen’s linocuts glow with brilliant light tempered by the darkest blacks. Inspired by decades of road trips across Australia, the artist’s simplified forms and markings imbue a symbolic tone to the landscapes which are created partly from truth and partly from memory. There is a sense of otherworldliness to the works, but where the presence of humans is never far away.
Jonathon is a multidisciplinary artist and designer. After majoring in film at the Queensland College of Art, he has spent numerous decades working in the creative industries as a visual artist, film maker, animator and designer. More recently he has worked in Regional Galleries (New England Regional Art Museum), University (Online Learning Designer) and in the Community Arts sectors, while still continuing to create and teach art with a focus on printmaking.
