SUMMARY:Letterpress Short Course |  Class 2: Type & Design
DESCRIPTION:Class 2: Type & Design\nStudents will get an overview of letterpress printing posters using large-format wood type and the vintage iron flatbed press from the MoP collection. With a focus on typeforms\, typefaces\, and the elements of design\, students will compose a word\, short phrase\, or name and experiment with layering and inking techniques to achieve a textured\, vintage-style design. \nWeek 1: The elements of type design\nStudents will consider how to create their poster design using shape\, color\, space\, form\, line\, value\, and texture\, as well as type-specific considerations such as readability and hierarchy. They will select the type for their poster from the vintage wood type in the MoP collection\, and learn how to set the type so that it will be readable when printed\, and decide on background options. \nWeek 2: Proofing\nStudents will “proof” their type (create a quick print of their selected elements)\, evaluate the quality of the printing\, trial inking techniques\, and decide on any changes. They will also utlise analogue composing techniques such as cutting out proofs to manually arrange elements. \nWeek 3: Final print\nStudents will create their final prints\, following best practice process of locking up their composition\, hand-inking\, registration\, maintaining a clean workspace\, and final clean-up. \nDATE | Tuesdays 30 April; 7\, 14 May \nTIME | 5.30 – 8.00pm \nVENUE | Museum of Printing NERAM (lower level of NERAM building) \nCOST | Friends of NERAM/Culture Club Members $ 185 – General $204 \nMATERIALS | All materials will be supplied \nMin 4/ Max 6 \nFor 16yrs+ \n \n\nTerms and Conditions\n\nAll bookings for events\, art classes and workshops require payment in full at the time of booking.A minimum number of 4 students required for classes to proceed\, please book and pay before 9am Friday 26 April to ensure classes go ahead.\nPlease be aware that once bookings close\, we are unable to offer a refund.\nIf the class does not proceed\, you will be refunded any cash amount.\nNERAM events have a limited capacity and use a ticketing system. Bookings are essential.\nStudent contact details may be passed on to facilitators for communication purposes.\n\n
