SUMMARY:Qigong Guided Practice
DESCRIPTION:To coincide with the exhibition The Neighbour at the Gate\, you are invited to a special guided Qigong practice. \nQigong (pronounced ‘chee-goong’) is a health practice that is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been practiced for over five millennia. It combines slow flowing movements with the breath and focused intention to circulate the energy or ‘qi’ in our bodies. Literally translated as ‘energy work or skill’\, qigong is an energy-based art that aims to cultivate a healthy and balanced flow of qi through the body’s organs and meridians (energy pathways in Chinese Medicine). Regular qigong practice teaches us how to work skilfully with our energy\, leading to better general health\, greater capacity to manage stress and emotions\, and a deep feeling of groundedness. \nCome along to this session to experience a guided practice. \nWho is it for? The practice is suitable for people of all ages and a wide variety of abilities\, including those experiencing illness\, pain or injury. It can be done seated or standing. \n\n \nMichelle Jamieson is a local qigong and mindfulness instructor. She has a background as health researcher and tertiary educator\, and her work explores the relationship between mind\, body and emotions in health and illness. \n  \n
