SUMMARY:Wonders of HINTON
DESCRIPTION:Experience one of the greatest collections of art in regional Australia with the new semi-permanent display\, Wonders of Hinton. \nThe Howard Hinton Collection is the result of one of the greatest acts of artistic philanthropy and benefaction in Australian history. Between 1929 and 1948 a collection of over 1000 artworks were donated to the newly constructed Armidale Teachers’ College by the retired shipping agent\, Howard Hinton OBE (1866-1948). The collection provides a snapshot into Australian artistic practice in the early twentieth century as well as some insights into this ‘modest and self-effacing’ gentleman who lived in a boarding house in the north shore suburb of Cremorne and is one of the most significant collections of Australian art in regional New South Wales. \nOpening Night Event: Friday 3 February\, 6pm \n

SUMMARY:Canyons: Ebony Russell
DESCRIPTION:Combining ceramic sculpture with the practice of cake decorating provides Ebony Russell with the tools to manipulate porcelain into words typically seen on celebratory cakes\, a cultural practice used for birthdays\, weddings and anniversaries. In this series\, Canyons\, Russell has constructed small craggy mountains from layers of piped porcelain\, rising from a piped phrase or term. The forms may be Gothic\, but the colour scheme is predominantly pink and white\, leaning into the gendered territory of female childhood. \nKids Sugar Sculpture Workshop: Sunday 26 May\, 10am – 12pm (5-9yrs) & 2-4pm (10-15yrs) \nOpening night: Friday 31 May\, 6-8pm \nImage credit: Ebony Russell\, Babygirl\, 2020\, porcelain. SUMMARY:Freeze Fawn: Jessica Nothdurft
DESCRIPTION:Jessica Nothdurft works in a variety of media\, including oil\, ink and metal\, to produce evocative documentations of her life experiences. In her hyper-restrained line works\, a battered housewife\, pregnant dogs\, cages\, and crouched forms recur.  By drawing on the familiar visual languages of artists from Giacometti to Louise Bourgeois and Jenny Watson\, Nothdurft transforms highly personal circumstances into universal scenes.  In turn\, her faux-naive style explores the existence of struggle below the surface and the many facets of shame. \nA partnership with Side Gallery \nOpening night: Friday 31 May\, 6-8pm \nJessica Nothdurft — Freeze Fawn Catalogue \nImage credit: Jessica Nothdurft\, Blue cage\, 2024\, oil paint and synthetic polymer paint on timber panel.
