What Are YOU Looking At? invites us to look closely and to consider what it means to be seen. Drawing from NERAM’s collections, this exhibition brings together portraits spanning different eras, styles and approaches to the representation of people.
From intimate self-portraits to bold and unexpected interpretations, these works reveal how artists use portraiture to explore identity, character, relationships and the act of looking itself. Who are we looking at? What can a portrait reveal, and what might it conceal?
