An art project for early learners
A unique 6-week program for preschool and early stage 1 children.
What is a museum? In this 6-week program, NERAM invites children to investigate museums around the world. What do they hold? What is the largest museum in the world? What is the smallest? Children are then introduced to the wide selection of museums in Armidale and the treasures they hold. Attending a guided tour to NERAM, children will focus on the art museum and the role of an artist. After a visit from a local artist, children are then inspired to create and curate their own exhibition for family and friends to enjoy and celebrate.
Week 1/ Introduction to museums. What makes a museum? A NERAM arts educator comes to the venue to present a slideshow to introduce and discuss museums around the world. 45 minutes
Week 2/ Introduction to local museums in Armidale and their objects. Presented by a NERAM arts educator, children receive an introduction from each museum; Who are they? What do they do? This will include museum objects, artefacts and outlines from museums across Armidale. 45 minutes
Week 3/ Excursion to NERAM. Explore the local art museum. What is an art museum? What happens here? Explore the various exhibitions on display at NERAM with our education officer. Children are asked to note the labels of the artwork and how they are presented in order to prepare their own exhibition. 30 mins with an optional artmaking activity to follow at an additional cost.
Week 4/ Visit from a local artist. An artist comes to visit the children to talk about how they make art, what it means to be an artist and the importance of an art museum. The artist will provide some ideas and tools in order to inspire the children to create their own artwork and hold their own exhibition for family and friends. 45 minutes
Week 5/ Make and prepare for their own exhibition. Complete their artwork, label and display. 45 mins
Week 6/ Exhibition time! Children invite their families to come along to an exhibition opening held at the preschool/primary school. NERAM representative and artist to attend exhibition opening. 45 mins
Dates: 6-week program available within school term 1, 2, 3 and 4. NERAM requires at least 4 weeks notice.
Venue: School or Centre with one excursion to NERAM in week 3
Cost for 6 week program: Member Schools $125 per group, Non-Member Schools $145 per group.
Please note the maximum number of children per group is 30.

This program is ideal for Early Learners, and Early Stage 1. Participants are ideally from the Armidale area, if you are outside this area and would like to participate we are happy to discuss other options.
