Come and listen to artist Vince Vozzo discuss his art practice.
Vince comes from a second generation Italian-Australian background. Alien to the arts, his parents did not want their son to do art. But he loved art as a child in school and art became his life (with an obsession of comics). He studied at art school and while there was drawn to sculpture. All his sculptures, painting, drawings come down to ideas kept in small sketch pads done over the years. He often draws in coffee bars, writing on a train or bus and the ideas come from reading books. These ideas form the basis of his stone sculptures, paper mache and paintings. Good art for Vince is based on draughtsmanship; as he says, “drawing is the beginning of everything”.
